Tok and I enjoyed a climb into Power Line Pass, where our growing puppy found chunks of snow to chew on, and I took in the views of the snow capped mountains.
When Brad and I eloped to Las Vegas, his crew aboard CGC Sanibel gave us a wedding present that included a gag gift of pink, plastic flamingo lawn ornaments. The crew requested that we take wedding photos with our “old married couple” signature décor. Since we were under the guise that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, we took pictures of our flamingos all over the strip, at our wedding, and beyond. When we returned from our elopement, word dispersed quickly, and suddenly, our gag gift had become our signature.
What soon followed were flamingo Christmas decorations, beach bags, cookie jars, beach towel clips, and a sink plug (yes, a sink plug—who knew?). Our family and friends embraced these items as kitschy reminders of us. They often call me after a Floridian vacation, “I saw this cute flamingo ___ and thought of you immediately!”
After two years of apartment living in a flower box, our precious lawn ornaments are Alaska-bound. They have a new house and yard to call home. Come share in our adventures as we travel across country and make our way to the Rock.
My god child, Ana Sofia
I am the proud god mother of Ana Sofia, daughter to my two dear friends, Paula and John. In today’s technology-driven world, we will keep in touch, despite the four hour time difference and 4700 mile distance. To keep our constant connection, I gave Ana Sofia a pink flamingo Beanie Baby. I have one, too. From time to time, you will see candid photos of our flamingos, gracing the screen in silent - if not kitschy- shout out to one another. Long live the flamingo!
